Based in the Tuscan city of Prato, the heart of Italy’s textile industry, Lyria produces original, timeless fabrics unlike any in the region. Founder Riccardo Bruni, the creative force behind Lyria, is an auteur of textiles who merges tradition, experimentation and emotion to create materials with a wholly unique character.

Our history

Lyria was founded in 2002 by Riccardo Bruni in partnership with Nino Cerruti amd in 2016, Bruni became the sole owner. Bruni was born in Prato as the textile industry was rebuilding after World War II. He grew up amid the noise and smell of looms in his parents ’small factory, where he began working from a young age, then received his training at the Istituto Tullio Buzzi in Prato. So, for more than two decades, he worked for the best Italian mills bringing his unorthodox spirit to their traditional way of working. Bruni conceived Lyria as an arena in which his creative vision could find its fullest expression.

Our Values

Since its founding, Lyria has followed a path of sustainability in a direct and authentic way that is in harmony with Lyria’s history and values. Lyria’s textiles are designed to be timeless, as modern now as they were decades ago, and as they will be decades from today. Founder Riccardo Bruni believes that reusing materials is the simplest way to be a good steward of the environment, creating new textiles from old or excess fabric. Though newly popular, recycling fabrics is an idea that, for him, has its roots in 19th century Prato when textile makers were careful not to waste any material resources. Lyria offers recycling and upcycling services to fashion brands which may want to make use of their leftover materials and garments.

Lyria has created textiles for the world’s leading fashion designers and brands including Alber Elbaz, Comme des Garçons, Donna Karan, Dries van Noten, Giorgio Armani, Jil Sander, Martin Margiela, Uma Wang and Yohji Yamamoto. Lyria exhibits at select trade shows including Première Vision in Paris.
