Academy Week 2025: a project with Politecnico di Milano and Prince Sultan University

Within Lyria’s Factory laboratory, among looms, archives, and workshops, Academy Week 2025 took shape: a project held in October 2025 and developed in collaboration with Politecnico di Milano and Prince Sultan University of Riyadh, bringing together two worlds — academia and industry — in a shared experience of research and creation.

For one week, an international group of students immersed themselves in Lyria’s daily life as a field of exploration. They touched the material within the production departments, observed gestures, and listened to the words of Riccardo Bruni, who shared his vision of imperfect beauty and creative responsibility. They moved through the Archive, the Textile Library that preserves more than twenty years of research, and visited places where thought becomes form: the architecture studio of Luca Dini and the atelier of Pola Cecchi.

Throughout the week, experiences intertwined like the weaves of a fabric: conversations, stimuli, and visions became raw material for new projects. During the final session, hosted by Naturart, each group presented a design concept capable of combining aesthetics, innovation, and durability over time — an idea of sustainability that does not end with materials, but extends to thought and gesture.

The journey will continue in the following months, with meetings and reviews leading up to the presentation of the prototypes in Riyadh. A jury composed of professors, Luca Dini, and Riccardo Bruni will select the winning project, which will be developed within Lyria’s laboratories and exhibited during Milan Design Week 2026.

Academy Week is not only an educational project, but a cultural act: an invitation to think of design as a language of relationships, where knowledge is built together and sustainability becomes a daily practice.
